Freedom of the Seas is the largest luxury cruise ship in the world, owned by Royal Caribbean.

This cruise ship weighs 160,000 tons, it is 1,112 feet long, 184 feet wide and it has 15 passenger decks holding 3,634 guests double-occupancy. Freedom of the Seas towers 208 feet tall, approximately the same height as two of the Statue of Liberty, placed head to toe.

A brand new featureis the H2O Zone, or the “sprayground” which has colorful fiberglass sculptures shooting jets of water, geysers shooting from the ground and water cannons. There’s even a lazy river and waterfall inside! At night, this area, with the integration of an incredible lighting system, will be transformed into a sculpture garden. Royal Caribbean says, “there’s nothing like the H2O Zone on any other cruise ship today.”

Another first-ever feature is a dedicated sports pool located in the main pool area. One of the two pools of the Freedom of the Seas is used almost exclusively for athletic pool games, ranging from basketball and volleyball to synchronized swimming. Other times, it will have designated lanes for lap swimming. The second pool is just for relaxing. At night, passengers can see this area transformed into an open-air nightclub with a large dance floor between the two pools.

Located at the heart of this largest cruise ship, the Royal Promenade is a 445-foot-long shopping, dining and entertainment boulevard that spans the length of an entire football field. At night, the Promenade hosts street parades, put on by select staff, commencing from a revolutionary new descending bridge amidst a fanfare of music, lasers and lights. Guests can also enjoy relaxed reading at the 3,600-volume Book Nook.

Guests can find their 15 seconds of fame at the On Air Club, Freedom of the Seas’ karaoke venue with state-of-the-art theatrical lighting, video cameras, flat screen TVs and even a "green screen" for aspiring music stars to record their own music video.
For professional entertainment, the Art Deco-style Arcadia Theatre (1,350 guests) features three shows: Marquee, a medley of performances, the musical Now You See It! magic show, and Once Upon a Time, a narrative piece combining the Brothers Grimm’s fairytales.

Taking the Risk Out of Buying a Used Car

Labels:

Used Cars. A simple term that has a less than positive meaning for most car buyers. Conventional wisdom says that buying a used car is buying someone else’s problems. However, as new car quality has gone up, the risk of buying a late model used car has gone down. In fact, the automotive industry doesn’t even call them used cars anymore. The term to look for now is Certified Pre-Owned, or CPO.

“There is a growing market in this country for used vehicles that have been put through a Certified Pre-Owned program. CPO vehicles give the consumer a chance to buy the latest models, often only two or three years old, at a big savings over a new car. So, when you buy one, you’re really doing yourself a favor,” says John Davis, host of MotorWeek, the longest running weekly automotive show on television.

More than a third of all late model used cars and trucks sold last year -- nearly 1.2 million vehicles --- came with a Certified Pre-Owned designation. They are typically vehicles that have low mileage, and have been put through a battery of tests to make sure they are in tip-top condition. Vehicles that fall into this category are mostly just off-lease, secured from factory executive car auctions, from rental fleets, or the very best trade-ins.

“A new car depreciates by 15 to 20 percent the moment you drive it off the lot,” says Davis. “If you buy one that’s Certified Pre-Owned, you avoid taking the initial depreciation, yet have an almost new car with a strong warranty and in some cases a better warranty than a new one. Smart consumers can think of these vehicles as the best and brightest in their class.”

According to CNW Marketing Research, Inc., one can expect to pay a premium of between four and seven percent for a vehicle with the Certified Pre-Owned designation. “They may cost a little more than you’d expect to pay for a used car, but when you look at all the checks and balances performed and the extra warranty, it’s easily worth it,” says Davis.

Among the benefits, not just some, but all vehicle parts that are even moderately worn have been replaced. Many Certified Pre-Owned cars come with new brake pads, hoses, accessory belts, wipers and batteries. Their engines and transmissions have been checked and overhauled if necessary; minor exterior damage -- like nicks, dings and tattered trim -- is repaired or replaced; carpets and seat upholstery are shampooed or cleaned, and if they look less than new, are replaced.

Beyond that, certified programs provide additional warranties, often up to 100,000 miles, and may also include perks like car-club style roadside assistance. This kind of warranty actually exceeds the coverage offered by the factory when it was new. “Certification programs increase consumer confidence about the quality of a used vehicle,” says Scott Weitzman, senior director of retail programs for the noted automotive polster, J.D. Power and Associates.

But, don’t just buy any vehicle that is labeled Certified Pre-Owned. The best CPO programs are found only at new car dealers, with repair requirements and warranties backed by the factory. Also, ask to see the checklist on the car or truck of your choice so you will know exactly what has been serviced.

“Simply put, purchasing a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle is really a win-win situation for everyone. Manufacturers make money on vehicles they had in fleets or on lease, dealers increase their income percentage compared to new car sales, and customers walk away feeling better about some of the built-in guarantees,” says Davis.

2007 Ford Shelby GT500

Labels:

It is certainly one of the most powerful Mustangs to date. This is the new 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 muscle car. To give you a small preview of what this sports car has to offer, let me sum it up with a few numbers and words: 500 horsepower and 5.4-liter supercharged V-8. Did that got your attention? It should have, for someone who likes sports cars with brute strength, those numbers will get them at the edge of their seats. What can I say, this muscle car´s power is classic Shelby. The 5.4-liter, 32-valve V-8 engine has been the result of Ford´s years of tinkering with modular engines. The results are nothing less but remarkable.

The 5.4-liter, 32-valve V-8 engine is nice to read and surely nice to be heard, but how does it perform? Ford made sure that a mixture of air and fuel will be forced-fed into the engine via a "Roots-type" supercharger producing, are you ready for this, 8.5 pounds per square inch of boost. Imagine how the sudden power will affect your speed.

And in order to handle all that power, the Ford Shelby GT500 sports car used a cast-iron engine block drivetrain, reminiscent of the old Ford GT design. The old program aluminum, four-valve cylinder heads, piston rings and bearings system was the foundation for the 2007 sports car GT500' drivetrain. A 6-speed manual gearbox also equips the new Shelby. The heavy-duty transmission has been made to withstand both road and track conditions. Solid Mustang underpinnings and upgraded key chassis components born from a fusion of improved shocks, spring rates and stabilizer bars care-off SVT engineers made the new Shelby strong and stable especially during sudden stops and abrupt turns.

With that V8, you can imagine the sound this baby can make. This sports car roars. And as sinister as the engine sounds, the outside of the GT500 is almost as sinister. Have you seen a Mustang Cobra before? If yes then you´re familiar with the ominous front-end design, the wide upper and lower fascia openings and that functional air splitter. The same goes with the new Shelby. The look of this car can only be described as one mean machine. If you observe the sports car closely, you´ll notice that there´s the presence of an upper intake which made the Cobra logo float off-center. The logo takes the place of the traditional galloping pony that can be found in the center of older Mustangs. Also, the hood has those heat extractors sticking out near the leading edge. This is not just to make the look sinister but to provide engine airflow and create the perfect aerodynamics. Due to this design, the air from the engine compartment is sucked out through ducts that are attached to the hood extractors as the air from the outside passes through the hood.

Definitely, the 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 sports car is more than one could hope for after the unique collaboration of legendary Carroll Shelby and Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT). Now being a product of a great union of minds, effort and money, the muscle car sports a "GT500" script on the gas cap emblem along side an updated Shelby classic Cobra logo.

When you look at the interior of the new GT500 racing car, chances are you will be a little surprised. Leather everywhere, that´s what you will see. You will find that the Mustang´s molded-plastic surfaces is covered by uninterrupted layer of stitched black hide. The trimmings found in the door panels are covered by leather as well. So is the steering wheel, the shifter, the parking-brake handle, the dash top, and even the console are covered by no less the genuine hide. The seat center panels themselves are made from red perforated leather, what else would you want? But strikingly different in the new GT500 is the usage of matte-aluminum finish on the shift knob, steering-wheel spokes, instrument rings, and vent registers. In the cars of yore, these parts were made of shiny bright metal decor.

These are considerable upgrades which makes the already legend GT500 sports car more infamous. Base price of the 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 has been pegged at more than $40,930.

Ford GT was created on the base model of Ford GT40 racecar, which in 1966 LeMans race beat all of its competition - the best racers with best racecars in the world.
The fact that it can be driven on the highway as well as on the racetrack is really amazing. This car does not use any special aviation fuel like most of the supercars and yet it is known to outperform it's rival cars like the Porsche, Ferrari or Lamborghini. Ford Motor Company has decided to produce only 4200 GT sports car units in the 2005-2006 years. Depending on chosen accessories, retail price varies from $143,000 to $157,000. Ford GT is really incredible when it comes to its racing performance. In 0-60mph test GT (3.3 sec) beats a $193,000 Ferrari Challenge Stradale (4.0 sec) by 0.7 seconds.
Ford GT features 18-inch front wheels, 19-inch rear wheels and GoodYear Eagle F1 Supercar tires. All GT models share one common design element, which makes their exterion look so amazing. The doors are cut into the roof of the car, this fact gives itr a very specific and exotic look.

2005 Saleen S7 Twin Turbo

Saleen's S7 is America's first and up to date the only exotic supercar with mid-engine configuration. When in 2002 S7 went on sale, it was the only street-legal car in the United States that has more than 500 horse power output and 500 lb-ft of torque. S7 Twin-Turbo is the successor of the already legendary supercar S7. Like in any other true supercar, the doors of Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo open upward and away from the body. It features an even more powerful all-aluminum V8 engine, which produces 750 horse power @ 6300 rpm and 700 lb-ft of torque. Redline is at 6500 rpm. 2006 version of Saleen exotic car also has one unique interior feature - a video rear-view mirror. There actually is a small video camera mounted in the rear of the fast car, which transmits the view to the driver. The main idea here was not to use standard rear-view mirrors in favour of aerodynamics, thus reducing aero drag and increasing down force.

2007 Saturn Sky Red Line

The Red Line gets a boost in performance from a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, GM’s first direct injection offering in North America. It produces 260 horsepower at 5300 rpm and 260 lb-ft of torque at 2500 rpm, making it GM’s highest specific output engine ever at 2.1 horsepower per cubic inch of displacement (130 bhp per liter).
Saturn keeps revitalizing with the 2007 Saturn Sky Red Line performance roadster sports car. The Red Line, available at Saturn retailers this fall, builds on the Sky’s established performance character, offering even more power and sportier driving dynamics combined with a bold design and driver-focused interior.

2006 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

Labels:

A dream sports car that offers just about the perfect combination of speed, luxury and safety, Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is setting roads on fire. With a 2+2 seating arrangement, this large two door coupe was designed to replace the much smaller Ferrari 456M sports car. Its gleaming all-aluminum body stretches 4.9 meters and has ample space in the rear seats to accommodate adults.
Named after one of Ferrari’s legendary coachbuilder, Sergio Scaglietti, supercar Ferrari 612 Scaglietti’s styling is setting standards for others to emulate. The leather trim comes in the same color as hat of the seats. What is more it extends all the way to the headlining and also to the side panels. The elegant cockpit with its modern dashboard design is sure to set the pulse racing. The cockpit of this sports car can in fact be personalized further thanks to the Carrozzeria Scaglietti program.
The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti sports car allows for easy entry for the passengers in the rear seat thanks to its longer wheelbase. The sinfully luxurious cabin can accommodate four people in total comfort. Driver comfort has been taken care off in a never before manner. With fascia-mounted controls and an ergonomically designed instrument panel, every minute aspect has been taken care off, in true Ferrari tradition. This sports car has a truly large luggage compartment, all of 240 liters. You can easily place two full sets of your favorite golf clubs in the luggage compartment. With a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti you can literally never get lost, courtesy the satellite navigation system. The sports car also comes with the latest MP3 player which allows you to store and play up to 4GB of your choicest music, while you take it out for a spin. The instrumental panel is every driver’s delight. Whether it is long drives that you prefer or a short ride to your work place, this sports car is designed to perform. When it comes to parking in tight spaces, the rear parking sensors come in handy. They are offered as standard in the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti supercar.
Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is a 12-cylinder sports car, which means increased power at your disposal. The light-alloy technology that has been incorporated in the body means that despite the size of the supercar there is still a saving of around 60 kilograms when compared to the other fast cars of this segment. The technology also allows for increased structural rigidity which converts into greater safety.
The racing car boasts o the latest in traction control system. In fact this is the first time that such an advanced traction control system is making an appearance in a Ferrari. With 5748cc at your disposal the sports car leaves the competition way behind. At 7,250 rpm and 540 bhp you can accelerate to an exhilarating 100 km/h from standstill all in a matter of 4.2 seconds. Speed buffs can look forward to achieving a top speed of 315 km/h or 196 mph. Coupled with such a lively engine is the six-speed mechanical gear box. You have a choice of either manual or paddle shifts, the kind of which you find only in F-1 cares. The gear box incorporates the latest electro-hydraulic system. The system enables ultras-smooth and fast gear changes. This is yet another winning proposition among sports cars from the house of Ferrari.

2005 Ferrari FXX

Labels:

The Ferrari FXX supercar is manufactured in Italy, along with all other Ferrari's, and was under production by the end of 2005. This sports car is a great display of new car technology, which includes innovations from Ferrari, along with other companies that have continuously contracted parts in association with the Ferrari brand. The Enzo is the supercar that the FXX is based on, but there are specific functions found on the FXX, that are not found on the Enzo, which makes the FXX a complete car of it's own accord. The engine, and other standard operating systems for the car, are modeled after the Enzo as well, but have been modified to accommodate differing fuel standards, and other technological restrictions.

The FXX boasts a very low gear shifting time (under 100 ms), which is essential for a sports car of this high magnitude. The brake pads have also been tweaked in order to create a safer atmosphere for the driver, while still making the car just as superficially viable as its predecessor. The tires are another feature that are highly touted as an individual characteristic of the car, and are custom made only for the Ferrari FXX, not for any other vehicle. Like the Enzo, the features of the Ferrari FXX's interior are custom made for the user, which means that every driver is measured specifically measured for the car upon purchase.

The Ferrari FXX is definitely a supercar that cannot be mass-produced, mainly due to production costs, but also due to the fact that only a select few are willing to purchase such an exotic car due to the extensively high $ 1,773,000 / 1,500,000 euro price. Thus only 29 units of this sports car were built. The Ferrari FXX computer technology held inside the car also makes for a great driving experience, and tells the driver how their technique can be improved to assist their ability to function along with the car.

2005 Honda Sports 4 Concept

Labels:

2005 Honda Sports 4 ConceptThe Honda Sports 4 Concept was initially designed for the average person to have accessibility to modern sport cars. Typically the most exciting cars are just pipe dreams, driven by professional drivers and the wealthy. The Honda Sports 4 found the ingenuity to step away from the standard conceptualization of sports car driving and delivered a performance oriented vehicle straight to the average driver.

The mid-sized body delivers optimal performance without compromising too significantly on passenger space. This opens up availability to individuals with families, one of the top three reasons that a person does not own a high performance car. The balance between passenger room and optimal handling was calculated, tested, and created.

The Honda Sports 4 Concept utilizes the original and unique Honda specific superior All Wheel Drive Handling system that Honda created just for their higher performance vehicles. The superior All Wheel Drive Handling System delivers the appropriate torque to all four wheels which enhances cornering ability, dynamically improves stability, and maintains consistent handling.

The All Wheel Drive Handling System was created by Honda and designed not only to maintain better stability and control, but its innovative design was actually intended to hit the racing market at one point. The designers switched gears, so to speak, and continued to tweak its capabilities until the production of the Honda Sports 4 Concept commenced.

Behind the driver’s seat, great care was taken to orient all the gauges and switches for basic at-a-glance recognition and to excel in the development of intuitive driving. The four independent bucket seats provide everyone the thrill of sport car driving, even as a passenger. Special attention was paid to optimizing driver position in accordance with foot pedals, ease of switch controls such as climate control features and stereo buttons, in an effort to create a well organized orientation for natural motion regardless of the moment’s activity. This research will also be utilized on other Honda models.

The clean and dynamic lines are appeasing to the eyes, with just enough hint of performance begging ability. This car does not want to sit in a driveway and wait for the perfect Sunday drive. This car wants to become the primary vehicle used, and used hard, for every little trip to the grocery store, the midnight run for diapers, and the car that takes an enthusiastic owner back and forth to work. The unique body work does not denote Honda, it has exceeded all visual expectations.

The elegance in her overall appearance doesn’t fool anyone with her low inertia center of gravity body the practically pulls the road at a standstill. The Honda Sports 4 Concept has next generation written all over it. The cockpit hosts displays and controls that are uniquely melted into the interior, and feature an Intelligent Night Vision pop-up display that is automated to light sensitivity. Additionally, all four occupants have their own sky roof and sky roof controls. The front seats have had panels built into the back of the head rests, giving the rear passengers the ability to have instrumentation readings as part of the riding experience. Passengers were taken into as much consideration as the driver.

Honda revealed its new brain child at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show and received mostly accolades for the innovative and groundbreaking design. The unique shape of the headlights received quite a bit of attention, both the positive and negative kind. However, as far as sport oriented concept cars go, it was well received and well mentioned throughout the reports from Tokyo.

There is little information available on the Honda Sports 4 Concept, such as drive train statistics and configuration standards. There is an intentional mystery around the Honda Sports 4 Concept car. This mysterious anticipation has been an intentional marketing move, a desire to showcase to the public the incredible features of the car and allow for anticipation to build. It is suggested that when Honda reveals the heart of the vehicle, there will be plenty of ooh-ing and aah-ing and an excitable frenzy like growth in sales.

There is obvious power to the Honda Sports 4 Concept. She is road ready and anxious to handle just about anything that can be thrown at her. Her innovative design features stand out in a crowd, and her classy good looks bring forth full circle what performance car driving is really supposed to be all about.

In every documented review written on the Honda Sorts 4 Concept, the word sculpted continuously appears. And it’s true. Whether you are speaking of her elegance, her made for speed style, her interior, even right down to the design of the speedometer, this car looks more as though it has been sculpted as artwork rather then crafted in a factory.

The combination of grace, elegance, beauty, sculpted design, and state of the art technology with Honda specific features, the Honda Sports 4 Concept has a long future ahead with an unlimited supply of devotees. Based priced much lower than most performance cars, it is Honda’s eventual mission to bring the concept of free spirited road handling, and safe alternative sports car driving, into the hands of every man and woman who desires to experience what it is to fly down the open road.

Honda’s bold concept is innovative and actually a bit ahead of its time, bit it has the power to change sports car design of the future. Creating cars like these has been received with some criticism. There are those who say if you make them available to everyone they will lose their mystique. However, most critics disagree. The power of these cars is in the driving, not hanging their images on the wall as a teenager or plastering their images across your computer as a dream inspired screen saver. These images are wonderful, but the experience is truly in the driving, the feel of the power at the fingertips and of course, the power in the speed and the rapid acceleration. Allowing this access to more people is much more likely to result in more mystique and allure than ever before. Only time will tell.

2006 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano

Labels:

Ferrari has entered the roads with its most powerful V12-engine car, the 2006 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. Amedeo Felisa, Ferrari's Vice General Manager, unveiled the new sports car model at the Detroit Motor Show on the 9th of January 2006 paving a challenging track to its competitors. Fiorano had its first debut in the Geneval Motor Show on February 28,2006. Later, in October 2006, this cute exotic car from the Ferrari family won the ´XIV L´Automobile più Bella del Mondo (The World's Most Beautiful Automobile) award under the category ´Sports cars´ at the Arena Civica in Milan, Italy.

Fiorano, the new flagship model that replaced the 575M Maranello, is a two-seater sports car. The Ferrari 599 derives its name from its 5999cc V12 engine displacement. The GTB stands for Gran Turismo Berlinetta, the most famous berlinetta that Ferrari has ever made.

The chassis of Fiorano looks more similar to Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, a four-seater fastback coupe from Ferrari; however, Fiorano has a shorter wheelbase. Also, the front midship arrangement of the Fiorano is quite similar to 612 and with the rear transaxle arrangement, it is able to get the 47/53 front/rear weight distribution.

The bodywork of Fiorano is a new concept from Pininfarina, the designer of Fiorano. Pininfarina, who had designed the Ferrari Daytona of the 1970s, was equipped with a great deal of details prior to the designing of the 599 GTB Fiorano. This all-aluminum sports car is built by deriving the engineering from the Formula One (F1) and focussing all the main objectives such as the performance, safety and comfort.

A lot of modifications are made at the Fiorano's engine in order to fit it in the engine bay. The most poweful Enzo-sourced V12 engine from Ferrari is powered with a traditional 6-speed manual transmission along with the 6-speed sequentail mannual gearbox, also called the F1 SuperFast. The MagneRide active suspension system is another important feature that contributes to a smooth driving experience to this sporty vehicle. The new traction control system, called the F1-Trac, is introduced in Fiorano after deriving inspiration from the F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher.

The flying buttress C pillars and the aerodynamic ducting on the hood and the front wings are the most attractive features of this sporty car. The C pillars redirect the airflow over the lip spoiler provided at the rear decklid and thus ensure much higher stability while driving in adverse conditions.

In a brief period of time, Fiorano has conquered the hearts of sporty car fans as well as the outsiders. It is the first Ferrari that is going to appear in the Gran Turismo videogames series; also it is the first European car to be featured as the cover car in Gran Turismo game.

2005 Ferrari GG50

Labels:

I am just looking at a picture of the Ferrari GG50 concept car in the red design. This is different from any other supercars I have seen before. The concept car has almost a sporty look that separates it from other manufacturers such as Lamborghini or Porsche. The red color I am looking at is also strongly enticing. There are some supercars that you look at and you just think that you have seen it before and it is nothing special and usually all the time these sports cars are in a solid color of red, orange or yellow but with the different paint job of this car it really brings out the stronger themes to this supercar.

The Ferrari is manufactured in Italy so you can be assured that it is of fine quality. Most of the major supercar manufacturers now produce in Italy and it has become apparent over the years that if you want quality, you only buy from Italy. This model of Ferrari car is very expensive apart from similar supercars with the same specifications due to the fact that it has special F1 modifications to make it better and faster and also more reliable. The power unit consists of a V12 engine that can reach high speeds and 540 horsepower. The transmission is also different from other modern cars today and it is disputed wither it is more efficient and whether or not it was a good choice to include this odd sequential mode.

The idea behind this concept car is to mark the 50 year anniversary of Ferrari in the world of supercar design and manufacturing. Just by looking at the model it appears more compact than similar supercars produced by Ferrari. The Ferrari GG50 is a very good looking sports car and it does not disappoint when it comes to performance as well as interior and exterior design. The transmission system is slightly different and the driver has the option to change the gears that are fitted on the steering wheel - a feature used by many F1 drivers.

When summing up this supercar is very well designed and it would not disappoint in any aspect to the potential buyer. Because Ferrari is one of the most trusted name in the sports car industry you can be assured that you are not only receiving the highest quality parts but also world class service. I have heard many people mention the advantages of buying Ferrari but when looking at this model it seems that this is the only supercar. I am totally impressed with this model and have only today realized my passionate feelings for it.
